Noel Whelan is impressed after Rodrigo Moreno rubbished speculation he is unhappy at Leeds United.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, applauded the Spaniard for addressing the rumours so publicly.

The Spain international took to his personal Instagram account to quash the “nonsense stories” about him being unhappy at Elland Road.

The 30-year-old has had a hit-and-miss season since his record-breaking move from Valencia.

He has made 20 Premier League appearances, 12 among the starting XI and scored three goals so far.

The Spain international returned from injury to come on as a substitute in Saturday’s 2-1 win over Sheffield United.

Whelan admitted he wanted to see more on the pitch from the summer signing.

However, he insisted he loved the attacker’s off-the-pitch statement.

Whelan told Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge: “Firstly, this started over in Spain. I think it was the Spanish press that came out with this accusation.

“Secondly, I think sometimes you need to nip things in the bud and personally put out your own words and statement.

“I’m glad he did because the last thing you want to see a player you’ve signed for record signing, who’s had a mixed season, and feel there’s some kind of rift between him and the manager.

“There’s no rift between him and the manager, both respect each other massively. The manager brought him in, he came to play for Marcelo Bielsa, who’s a fantastic manager in himself.

“I think sometimes you’ve got to come out publicly, whether the club wants to do it or not, and just quash these rumours and certain accusations about a player that isn’t isn’t happy or has a certain problem with the manager.

“I’m glad he’s gone and done that because a lot of the time you’ve got to abide by the club rules. It’s nice to see somebody who’s come out and said: ‘Look, this is the story but there’s absolutely no problem.’

“He can’t wait to play in front of the fans. That’s going to be next season. Hopefully next season we get a full season out of him where he’s ready and raring to go. He should be ready from the beginning of the season. Hopefully, he can showcase all his skills in front of everybody at Elland Road.”
