Whelan: Leeds set for 'incredible' boost v Everton after what I heard at Man United
Noel Whelan has claimed Leeds United will receive a major boost from the return of fans for the visit of Everton.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Leeds striker heralded the “incredible” support of the away supporters in Saturday’s 5-1 defeat to Manchester United.
The Premier League has kicked the new season off with packed stadiums after most of the 2020/21 campaign was played behind closed doors.
Leeds played in front of 8,000 fans at Elland Road in their 3-1 win over West Brom on the final day of last season.
However, they are set to welcome a capacity crowd of over 37,000 for the visit of Everton on Saturday.
Whelan suggested Leeds fans would be like a “caged tiger” and could give Marcelo Bielsa’s men a major boost.

Asked if he thought the fans could play a huge part against Everton, Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “Absolutely. I think the fans were absolutely incredible as well at Old Trafford.
“You could hear them throughout the game, even when they were losing. Their spirits were never down, as usual. They kept singing, kept pushing the boys and enjoying their day at Old Trafford despite what the score was.
“I think this game is like a caged tiger for the fans. Going back to Elland road, getting that fortress, that feeling back again.
“Really giving a spectacle to the players that are out there of how passionate, how loving they are towards the club and how much they are behind them.”
Everton head into Saturday’s game off the back of a 3-1 win over Southampton at Goodison Park.
The Toffees won 2-1 on their visit to Elland Road last season.
