Noel Whelan has claimed the absence of Rodrigo for the Leeds United trip to Crystal Palace on Saturday is a “huge loss”.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, the former Whites  striker said it is a big blow to loss the forward just when he was starting to settle in English football.

The Spanish playmaker will join Kalvin Phillips, who has been ruled out until after the international break with a shoulder injury, in missing Saturday’s trip to Selhurst Park.

Rodrigo has tested positive for Covid-19 and the Spain international is self-isolating.

The 29-year revealed in a message on his personal Instagram today that he is feeling healthy but will have to sit out the upcoming international break with Spain.

He missed Monday’s 4-1 defeat against Leicester and will also be absent for the Palace game, because he is isolating after contact with a confirmed case.

“We have got a problem with Rodrigo,” Whelan told Football Insider. “He is not going to be available for Saturday against Crystal Palace and that is a huge loss.

“He was just getting going at Leeds, finding that form. That is disappointing not to be able to call on him.”

Rodrigo is Leeds’ £27million club-record signing after signing from Valencia on a four-year deal in August.

He has started three Premier League matches among seven appearances in all competitions since his arrival, scoring the equaliser in the 1-1 thriller against Man City.
