Whelan salutes 'brilliant' Sakala after what he's seen at Rangers
Noel Whelan claims Fashion Sakala will be buzzing and full of confidence after scoring on his Rangers debut.
The former Aberdeen hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claims it doesn’t matter that the goal came in a friendly.
Summer signing Sakala, 24, banged in the equaliser as Rangers beat Real Madrid 2-1 on Sunday afternoon.
Sakala joined the club on a free transfer after his contract with KV Oostende expired at the end of the season.
Due to travel problems and fitness issues he was has been unable to feature for the majority of Rangers’ pre-season.
However, his goal will give Rangers fans confidence that he can perform if called upon with Steven Gerrard still unsure of Alfredo Morelos’ return date. [Sky Sports]

Whelan claims that first goal will have settled Sakala’s nerves ahead of a possible first competitive appearance for the club this weekend.
“It’s so important to get that first goal,” Whelan told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs.
“If you’ve been signed by a club an on your debut you score a goal, it really settles the nerves.
“It also shows the fans what you’re all about. It’s important to get that goal for anyone.
“But as a striker, you’ve been brought in to score goals. To get one on your debut, brilliant, you can’t get off to a better start.
“He will be absolutely buzzing and confident after getting that first goal.”
Sakala scored 16 goals in 34 outings for Oostende last season.
Cedric Itten has lead the line for most of the Gers’ pre-season with Morelos on international duty and Jermain Defoe taking a player-coach role.
