Whelan tells Celtic to appoint Lampard after source reveals manager twist
Noel Whelan insists Celtic should copy Rangers and hire Frank Lampard as their new manager.
The former Aberdeen hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claims the Hoops should target Lampard after failing to appoint Eddie Howe.
In a statement on Friday, Celtic confirmed Howe would not become their new manager due to reasons “outwith both his and Celtic’s control”.
A Celtic source has told Football Insider that Yokohama F. Marinos boss Ange Postecoglou has asked for permission to be released from his contract so he can join the club.
The latest is that the Hoops are hopeful are tying up a deal in the coming days.
In April, Football Insider revealed Lampard was on a three-man Crystal Palace shortlist, alongside Howe and Sean Dyche.

However, this site later revealed Lampard informed the Premier League club that he no longer wanted to be considered for the vacant post.
Steven Gerrard took over at Rangers in 2018 and has built a team that dominated the Premiership last season.
Whelan can’t believe Celtic haven’t gone down the same route and appointed Lampard as their new boss.
“Look what happened with Gerrard at Rangers,” Whelan told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“Lampard’s out there. He did a very good job at Chelsea. He’s young and out of contract.
“Good with players, has the stature as a player. This could have been a really good opportunity for Celtic and Frank.
“He’s got contacts, he could have got some of the better young players from Chelsea in on loan.
“It’s about who you know. Think of the experience he could have passed onto the players, why have they not looked at him?
“That’s my question. Why have they not seen what’s happened at Rangers and done the same?”
