Whelan thrilled by 'huge' Leeds update as image emerges from Thorp Arch
Noel Whelan has claimed the new pitch developments at Thorp Arch should be a “huge” boost for the Leeds United players.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Leeds striker suggested things “couldn’t get any better” for Marcelo Bielsa and his squad.
Stefan Jones, head groundsman at Thorp Arch, posted a picture on Twitter in May of the training ground pitches being ripped up.
He then posted a picture of the full pitch reconstruction on Tuesday (July 20th).
As reported by the Athletic (July 21st), Leeds have installed the exact same hybrid surface that was laid down at Elland Road to replicate the playing conditions in training.
It is said the Whites spent £1.5million on their stadium’s new pitch and spent another “substantial” sum at Thorp Arch.

Bielsa and his men have since returned to pre-season training ahead of the new campaign.
Whelan suggested matching the pitch conditions would be a big boost to the squad’s preparations.
Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “It’s huge. However, I don’t think Leeds United are the only club doing it.
“They recognise the importance of having a training pitch that is exactly the same dimensions.
“Also, the same sort of surface that you’re going to be training onin midweek before the game on Saturday.
“I think it’s invaluable you get the feel of the pitch, the size of the pitch, the dimensions.
“When you’re doing set plays, when you’re doing routines from front to back. Start from back to midfield and get a feel for the size of the pitch
“Everything they put into preparing for a game now is so spot-on. It couldn’t get any better. I mean it’s so important to know where you are on the field as a player.”
