Whelan thrilled by Leeds 'ambition' after 'perfect' deal agreed
Noel Whelan has heralded the “ambition” of Leeds United after tying Patrick Bamford down to a new contract.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Leeds striker claimed the 27-year-old’s long-term deal has sent a message to the rest of the squad.
As confirmed on Thursday (August 19th), Bamford has committed himself to a new five-year contract at Elland Road.
Bamford has established himself as a mainstay in the starting XI under Marcelo Bielsa.
With the striker tying himself down for arguably the best years of his career, Whelan insisted both player and club have shown great ambition for the future.
Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “I think for the rest of the team, they know that if they put in the performances and perform to the highest ability, you progress as an individual but as a team.

“It is about the team, more importantly. Collectively, everybody has a part to play and a role in the success of the football club.
“You’ll get rewarded and no more so than Patrick Bamford with a five-year contract.
“We’ve now tied him down over the best years of his career, in terms of age, with a five-year deal.
“He’s tying himself down to five years at a very good club with ambition as well. That goes both ways. The ambition of Patrick has got to suit the ambition of Leeds United.
“It’s a perfect fit made in heaven for the two of them. Everyone’s striving for more and to be better.”
Bamford joined Leeds in 2018 from Middlesbrough.
He has scored 43 times in 111 appearances for the Whites.
