Kemar Roofe has been tipped to properly ignite his Rangers career by banging in 20-plus goals next season.
That’s according to former Leeds United and Aberdeen striker Noel Whelan, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after Roofe’s goals helped to down Celtic.
Roofe, 28, opened the scoring at Ibrox with an improvised finish off his chest before he added a second and scored Rangers’ third with a second-half header.
Goals from Alfredo Morelos and Jermain Defoe completed the four-goal rout but it was Roofe who stole the limelight.
Roofe’s brace were his first Scottish Premiership goals of 2021 though he did bag a brace against Cove Rangers in the Scottish Cup.
Whelan claims the performance was vintage Roofe and tipped him to score over 20 goals for Rangers next season.
“That’s what Roofe’s got in his locker,” Whelan told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs.
“That’s why he’s such a good centre forward, he can do something extraordinary.
“He works very hard for the team and he gets his rewards. He wants to run, tackle and put himself about.
“He’s a very hard person to not put in your side. You know he’ll score hit at least 20 odd goals every season up there in Scotland.”
Roofe has so far scored 16 goals 34 appearances during his debut season in the Scottish Premiership.
He left Anderlecht to join Rangers last summer with his most memorable moment for the club coming when he scored from his own half in a Europa League clash with Standard Liege.
