Noel Whelan has tipped Marcelo Bielsa to axe Helder Costa and bring Jack Harrison back into the Leeds United starting XI against Liverpool.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, praised the Portuguese winger for his “hard work” against Manchester City.
Costa made only his 11th league start of the season in the 2-1 win, with Harrison ineligible against his parent side.
Somewhat surprisingly, the former Wolves man topped the charts for tackles attempted (7) and successful tackles (4) among both sets of players at the Etihad [Whoscored].
Raphinha started on the other flank at the Etihad, although the Brazilian is a doubt after picking up a knock
Bielsa started Costa and Harrison in the reverse fixture against Liverpool on the opening day of the season.
However, Whelan suggested it would be the Portugal international who made way on Monday night.
“I expect Raphinha to be fit and I certainly expect Jack Harrison to come straight back in,” Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.
“As much hard work as Costa did, there’s a different level of quality that we’re seeing from the two wingers.
“You look at Harrison’s stats and you look at his consistency throughout last season and this season. He’s a nailed-on starter that comes straight back into the side in my opinion.
“So it’ll be Helder Costa to the bench is what I would be thinking. You’ve got to play your strongest side and Harrison over Costa is definitely stronger.”
Harrison grabbed an assist against Fulham and scored in the win over Sheffield United before sitting out against City.
The 24-year-old has missed just two Premier League games this term, both against his parent club.
