Whelan: Tottenham are close to 'perfect' hire as Paratici agrees terms
Noel Whelan has hailed the imminent appointment of Fabio Paratici as the new director of football at Tottenham.
The former Leeds United hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, backed Paratici’s appointment as a decision that “makes perfect sense”.
Today (7th June) Football Insider revealed Paratici is packing his bags and will head from Italy to London to start his new role this week.
It is understood he will be given overall responsibility for transfers and contract negotiations in what is a landmark deal.
Paratici has spent the last 11 years in various executive roles at Juventus.
He worked extensively with Antonio Conte, who was recently in the frame for the manager’s job at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

BBC Sport were among many outlets to report Spurs had pulled the plug on talks with the Italian amid doubts over the transfer budget.
Whelan admits not appointing Conte is a missed opportunity but he has still been blown away by Paratici’s appointment.
“Tottenham are bringing someone in who has been successful,” Whelan told Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge.
“He knows what he’s doing. He knows what Tottenham needs. Obviously they were looking to bring in the partnership, not just Paratici.
“If Conte had come in, there would be no need to build up that relationship. They know what they both want.
“From a Spurs point of view it makes perfect sense. It just makes perfect sense.
“Targets that Juventus have missed out on could be targeted by Spurs.”
Tottenham are still yet to appoint Jose Mourinho’s replacement.
Mourinho was sacked in April just days before the Carabao Cup final.
