Noel Whelan has slammed Kristoffer Ajer after he once again spoke out about his desire to leave Celtic.

The former Aberdeen attacker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, was left fuming after the defender’s latest comments.

Ajer recently spoke to Norwegian outlet VG about his future and revealed, “something will happen this summer”.

On May 22, the Daily Mail claimed the Magpies are considering an £8million move for the defender, while Sky Sports report he is in talks to join Bayer Leverkusen.

Ajer has just 12 months left on his contract with the Hoops and it is likely the club will cash in this summer if he does not agree to sign a new deal.

Whelan claims Ajer will be better for Newcastle than he was for Celtic as he is motivated to play for a Premier League side.

“They need centre halves,” Whelan told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs.

“I think you will see a better Ajer in the Premier League because he wants to play for a club like Newcastle.

“The sad bit is the way he went about it, that’s what annoys me. You have a contract at a very successful club in Scotland.

“They have given a lot to him, and for him to be callous as he was at the start of last season, that’s the part of the game I don’t like.”

Ajer also spoke about leaving Celtic last summer but remained as the club looked to win a tenth title in a row.

However, the Hoops finished 25 points behind an unbeaten Rangers.
