Darren Bent has questioned Christian Eriksen’s state of mind at Tottenham as he names the two players he feels are safe in Mauricio Pochettino’s forward line.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England striker says that the speculation surrounding the future of the Danish international means he cannot be certain the attacking midfielder will be in the starting XI for the new season.
Tottenham have been linked with signing a number of players who operate in a similar role to Eriksen before the transfer deadline on Thursday, Paulo Dybala, Bruno Fernandes and Phillipe Coutinho all said to be in Spurs’ sights.
Bent says that Pochettino could have a dilemma on his hands as to who plays, insisting that only Harry Kane and Heung-min Son are guaranteed to retain their roles in the starting XI.
Bent told Football Insider: “Pochettino, we’re sitting here discussing who they’re going to play, where they’re going to play, it’s a tricky one. It’s literally like Football Manager, he’s got all these players, where do they play?
“Right now, if you looked at Spurs’ attacking options, you’d say that the two who are definite starters are Harry Kane and Heung-min Son. You’d like to say Christian Eriksen but you just don’t know where his head’s at. Does he stay, does he not?”
Tottenham kick off their 2019/20 Premier League campaign with a home clash against newly-promoted Aston Villa, with their first away trip seeing them visit reigning champions Manchester City.
North London only has to wait until the start of September for the first derby clash between the Lilywhites and Arsenal, with Mauricio Pochttino taking his side to the Emirates Stadium.
In other Tottenham news, it can be REVEALED that the club have scheduled a medical as an attacking ace lands in London to complete his move to Spurs.
