Why Leeds should consider move for available 32-year-old defender

COMMENT By Derek Smithson

Leeds should eye a move for free agent Kieran Richardson this summer to help bolster their defence.

The left-back is currently out of contract following his release from Cardiff in December and is yet to find a new club.

Thomas Christiansen should plan a swoop for the former England international as he could be a success at Elland Road.

Richardson is renowned as an accomplished left-back and could certainly still have a positive impact if given another opportunity.

Leeds already have Luke Ayling and Gaetano Berardi as senior options in the full-back areas ahead of the new season, but are going to need another reinforcement to provide adequate cover.

The Whites are yet to replace Charlie Taylor following his departure to Burnley and a left footed defender would be ideal.

Richardson is a vastly experienced defender and has played for the likes of Cardiff, Aston Villa, Fulham, Sunderland and Manchester United in the past.

The left-back is an attack minded player and would offer good service going forward.

He would provide a cheap option in the summer to Leeds for a position they need to fill and could bring some vital experience to the squad.

In other Leeds transfer news, they are keen on signing a centre-back from their Championship rivals.
