Why Newcastle should line up move to re-sign forward from PL rivals

COMMENT By Derek Smithson

Newcastle should consider a move for striker Loic Remy from Chelsea this summer to help bolster their frontline.

The 30-year-old previously spent a successful loan spell at St James’ Park in the 2013/14 season and became a huge hit with supporters.

He scored 14 goals in just 27 appearances for the Magpies and would be gladly welcomed back at the north-east club.

Newcastle will need to add extra options to their squad ahead of a Premier League return and players with top-flight experience would be preferable.

Remy has endured a frustrating time at Stamford Bridge and not quite been able to make a major impact, scoring just 12 goals in 47 appearances for them in his three-year spell.

The French striker was loaned out to Crystal Palace last season where he made just eight appearances due to his role behind the likes of Christian Benteke and Fraizer Campbell.

However, he should not be written off by everyone and at 30 still has time to reignite his career.

The pacy attacker has been unfortunate with injuries throughout his career, but is a real force when he is fit and firing.

Remy has impressed with spells at Marseille and Nice in the past and still has the potential to recapture his best form.

He can make life extremely comfortable for defences due to his defence and would be a great asset to a side that will need to hit teams on the counter in the top flight.

Remy has just one year remaining on his contract at Stamford Bridge and Newcastle should certainly look to tempt them with an offer in the summer window.

In other Newcastle transfer news, they are in a battle to sign a top-flight teenage attacker.
