Why PL 20-year-old would be a perfect fit for Tottenham
COMMENT By Dominic Toner
Tottenham may be looking to bolster their defensive options in the summer transfer window and should look no further than Everton’s starlet Mason Holgate.
The 20-year-old is currently impressing on Merseyside as he breaks into the Toffees first-team and has the potential to become an England star in the future.
Spurs already have a good core of young English players at White Hart Lane and should make Holgate the latest.
Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino has used both a back four and back three this season, with the latter allowing adventurous full-backs Kyle Walker and Danny Rose to push forward.
He currently has Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen and Eric Dier as his preferred centre-backs, but there is certainly room for improvement.

Dier’s best posiiton is as a defensive midfielder, while squad options Kevin Wimmer and Cameron Carter-Vickers have been unable to force their way into contention.
Holgate would be a great option to have as he is a versatile defender that has played in a back three before.
He is nowhere near the finished article, but the potential is so clear and Spurs should move for him before his price tag continues to grow.
The defender is extremely composed in possession and has been compared to John Stones by many Everton fans.
Holgate has adjusted well to life in the Premier League and has shown great maturity, especially in the 4-0 demolition against Manchester City.
Everton are unlikely to allow their rising star to leave on the cheap, but Spurs should test their resolve and offer him the chance to continue his progression at the north London club.
