Why Pochettino should axe Tottenham 24-year-old v Gent
COMMENT By Dominic Toner
Mauricio Pochettino should drop Tottenham attacker Heung-Min Son for the Europa League clash against Gent.
The 24-year-old should be named on the bench after a quiet performance in the 3-0 victory against Fulham in the FA Cup.
Harry Kane struck a hat-trick to set up a quarter-final against Millwall, but winger Son was unable to influence the match.
Spurs host Gent on Thursday night in the Europa League round of 32 and will have to overturn a 1-0 deficit from the first-leg.
Pochettino’s side were outplayed in the first meeting against the Belgian side and will be desperate to continue their European adventure this season.
They should name a front three of Kane, Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli, with Son left on the substitutes bench.
Son has enjoyed a recent run in the starting line-up following an injury to Danny Rose, but has been unable to seize the opportunity.
The left winger has made 32 appearances across all competitions and managed 11 goals in return.
However, he has been unable to match the form he showed in the earlier stages of the career and Spurs would be stronger leaving him out.
Eriksen, Alli and Kane have proved they can work so effectively as a trio and can link up well.
Pochettino needs to field his strongest XI for the crucial Gent tie and Son is not currently a part of that.
