He has proven that he can be unplayable when he is on top form and Spurs’ wide men have struggled recently.

Christian Eriksen and Heung-Min Son have been used regularly by Mauricio Pochettino, but the pair have been unable to make any huge impacts.

Eriksen scored his first goal of the season in the 2-1 defeat against Chelsea, but has not looked as threatening as normal.

Son was in phenomenal goalscoring form at the start of the campaign, but his form has dropped considerably and youngster Georges-Kevin N’Koudou is yet to get a run in the side.

Lamela has done well this season before his injury, scoring two goals and supplying seven assists in 14 appearances.

The Argentina international offers a different style on the Spurs wing and would have been turned to during the difficult run of results.

Spurs have been eliminated from the Champions League and fallen seven points adrift of league leaders Chelsea in recent weeks, meaning the Swansea clash at White Hart Lane is a crucial one.

Lamela’s return could be the catalyst to kick start their season and he should get the best out of their striker Harry Kane.

He has made 31 assists during his 121 appearances for the club and one of his key strengths is crossing.

The attacking midfielder may not be the most liked player for Spurs, but they have certainly missed his creativity and flair recently.

In other Tottenham news, Matt Le Tissier believes that the club’s senior man is currently performing below expectations.
