Wilfried Gnonto could join Everton after big development – sources

Everton could still sign Leeds United winger Wilfried Gnonto this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed the deal could take place despite the latest takeover collapse.

The Friedkin Group’s planned takeover has now stopped after a breakdown in talks took place, leaving the club in a difficult situation.

Football Insider reported that Everton are still looking to sign two key players this summer, with wingers being Sean Dyche’s focal point.

The Merseyside club are long-time admirers of Leeds United’s Gnonto and have been pursuing him this summer.

Gnonto went on strike last summer to try to force a deal through to Goodison Park, but the Championship club refused to sell.

Sources say there are question marks over whether Everton can reach the asking price Leeds have set, which could be the only stumbling block.

Everton need attacking quality such as Wilfried Gnonto

Football Insider revealed that Gnonto is Dyche’s top target this summer, and Leeds could accept an offer of £25million for the Italian.

The Merseyside club have made contact with the 20-year-old’s camp to try and push the deal closer before the start of the season.

Gnonto scored eight goals and provided three assists last season as Leeds narrowly missed out on promotion to the Premier League.
