Rangers midfielder Jamie Barjonas has sent a touching message to team-mate Grant Nelson on Instagram – seemingly confirming 19-year-old winger Nelson’s Ibrox departure.
Barjornas posted the image on his personal Instagram account, wishing Nelson “good luck” and saying he will “be missed”.
Nelson spent the first-half of the season on-loan with Lowland League side Edusport, returning to Ibrox in January.
The teenager was a regular in various youth squads but failed to make the step up to the senior side and follow the like of Barjonas, Ross McCrorie and David Bates from the Academy side into the first-team.
During his time at Ibrox, Nelson suffered a serious injury which kept him out of action for 18 months before returning 12 months ago and showing no lasting effects of his time on the sidelines.
Football Insider verdict:
Nelson is a promising young winger who will undoubtedly go on to enjoy a good career further down the league pyramid after making his comeback from injury. After a decade at the Gers, Nelson has had the benefit of working with some fantastic players and coaches during his time at Ibrox and that should stand him in good stead as he looks to go out and make a name for himself. Despite not making the first-team, Nelson is a talented young player who never looked out of place in the Gers’ Academy sides. With the likes of Glenn Middleton and Serge Atakayi also fighting to step up to Steven Gerrard’s senior squad, it seems the Gers have made the decision not to offer Nelson a new deal. While the teenager was likely hopeful of getting the chance to work with Gerrard on the training pitch, he’ll now need to go and show the Gers boss why he should have been given a new contract.
