Wilson Isidor thanks ‘son’ Mayenda for Sunderland win v Sheffield Wednesday
Wilson Isidor had a message for his teammate after Sunderland secured a crucial 2-1 victory over Sheffield Wednesday.
Sunderland came into the game on the back of consecutive defeats but managed to turn things around thanks to a brace from Eliezer Mayenda, earning all three points.
After feeling hard done by in their previous loss as Sunderland were denied a penalty against Hull City, the Black Cats knew they couldn’t afford to drop points again. Determined to bounce back, they delivered a much-needed win at the Stadium of Light.
Isidor was named on the bench instead of the starting XI for the first time since September, but came on later in the match as Mayenda’s late strike sealed the victory.

The Frenchman took to Instagram after the win, sharing a message directed at Mayenda: “Thanks son. +3,” tagging his teammate alongside white and red heart emojis.
Mayenda has played more of a rotational role this season, starting 16 of Sunderland’s 29 Championship games while contributing six goals and five assists.

Leeds United showed interest in Mayenda during the January transfer window, but no deal materialised, allowing the Black Cats to retain their promising forward.
Isidor, on the other hand, has been Sunderland’s go-to striker, and for good reason—his 14 goals this season have been crucial in their promotion push.
Even though they often compete for a starting spot, Mayenda shifted out wide when Isidor was introduced, proving that both can feature in the same lineup when needed.

Regis Le Bris under pressure to maintain form amid Premier League interest
After back-to-back defeats, morale may have taken a hit at the club, but this victory keeps Sunderland in the play-off fight. They currently sit fourth with 65 points, trailing Burnley by three points, though the Clarets have a game in hand.
Their strong performances this season have attracted Premier League interest, with Tottenham keeping tabs on Jobe Bellingham.
Despite the speculation, the side have remained focused, and while automatic promotion seems unlikely—sitting 13 points behind second-placed Sheffield United—they will be relieved to have avoided a third consecutive setback.
