West Ham in race to sign Tottenham defender but Bilic wants to play him at left-back - report
By Abigail Withey
A number of Premier League clubs have their eye on Tottenham centre-back Kevin Wimmer, according to recent reports.
The Sun has revealed that the 24-year-old is wanted by both Crystal Palace and Stoke City as the clubs are focused on strengthening their defence in order to climb the Premier League table this season.
The newspaper has revealed that the Austria international will be allowed to leave the club if Tottenham secure Ajax defender Davinson Sanchez in the coming weeks.
It is understood that West Ham also had Wimmer on their radar, but Hammers boss Slaven Bilic reportedly wants to play the Spurs player at left-back rather his favourite central role.
The Austrian joined the north London club back in 2015 from FC Koln and has made a total of 31 appearances for Spurs.

Last season, the centre-back fell out of favour with Mauricio Pochettino after scoring an own goal during Spurs north London derby against Arsenal, where the game ended in a 1-1 draw.
Wimmer was left on the bench during Tottenham’s Premier League opener against Newcastle at the weekend, as Pochettino opted for Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen in the centre-back positions over the Austrian.
Football Insider verdict
Wimmer looks to have well and truly fallen down in Pochettino’s defensive pecking order and appears unlikely to become a key feature of the squad this season. Tottenham have a rumoured asking price of around £20 million for the centre-back and the funds, alongside the mega-money fee which Spurs received for Kyle Walker, could be used to make some last minute signings before deadline day. Pochettino is not in the position to be losing anymore squad members without signing some new recruits as it will be incredibly limiting. If the boss doesn’t make any signings this summer it could create a bitter atmosphere among fans, which could really affect their chances in the Premier League this season.
In other Tottenham news, one of Spurs’ Premier League rivals have made an approach for this player who only signed last summer.
