Winks tipped to force way into Nuno starting XI amid Tottenham report - pundit
Noel Whelan has tipped Harry Winks to force his way back into the Tottenham starting XI under Nuno Espirito Santo.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Premier League striker suggested the 25-year-old could be the “heartbeat” of Spurs’ midfield.
The Athletic (July 3rd) report Winks has expressed an interest in leaving north London this summer in pursuit of regular game time elsewhere.
Winks made just nine league starts during the 2020/21 campaign, seven of which came under Jose Mourinho.
Whelan suggested the midfielder needs the “right manager” to get the best out of him.
He insisted Nuno could be that boss.

Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “It didn’t work out for some reason or another with Jose Mourinho. He was not sold on him.
“Harry Winks is the heartbeat of Tottenham. He’s been there, he’s come through the ranks.
“He just needs that right manager to put that trust and faith back into his game again, that belief.
Asked if he thought Nuno could be that manager, Whelan said: “I do, I really do. Everyone’s walking in there with a clean slate.
“Players that were frozen out under other managers, it’s a clean slate for them to go out and really impress.
“Pre-season, new manager, fresh start for players. That’s how it seems and how it feels.
“Whether you’ve been at the club five years, two years, one year, it’s a clean slate for everyone to go and force their way back into the side.“
Winks made a total of 30 appearances across all competitions last term.
Nuno also has Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Tanguy Ndombele, Moussa Sissoko, Giovani Lo Celso and Dele Alli as midfield options.
