‘Wissa refuses to train after Brentford break pact on £30m Newcastle exit’

Yoane Wissa is refusing to train with his Brentford teammates after the Bees informed Newcastle of their decision on whether he is for sale.

Wissa’s 19 goals in the Premier League helped Brentford to a 10th-placed finish last season, but it has been all change in West London with numerous outgoings this summer.

Thomas Frank left the club to become Tottenham boss last month, while the 28-year-old’s strike partner Bryan Mbeumo recently exited to join Manchester United.

That has led to doubts over the Congolese forward’s future at Brentford, with Football Insider recently revealing that the Bees are set to price interested clubs out of signing Wissa amid interest from Newcastle, Tottenham and Nottingham Forest.

Wissa recently left Brentford’s pre-season training camp due to uncertainty around his future at the club, and a new update has now emerged over his potential whereabouts ahead of the new campaign.

Wissa not for sale but refusing to train with Brentford

Brentford recently turned down a £25million bid from Newcastle [The Athletic] for Wissa’s services, and they are clearly planning to hang onto their star man after already losing Mbeumo.

Journalist Ben Jacobs (26 July) has now reported that Newcastle have been informed that Wissa isn’t for sale after submitting a new bid of “over £30m.”

He also states that the 28-year-old is refusing to train with his Bees teammates and has been left “disappointed” by their stance, as he feels that the club have “broken a pact” that was set to see him leave for £26m this summer.

Newcastle need to land Wissa after missing out on numerous targets

Football finance expert Dan Plumley recently told Football Insider that Newcastle are still in a “tricky spot” regarding finances, as they need to bolster their squad depth but could do with selling players to further ease PSR concerns before that happens.

They have routinely missed out on their top targets so far, as Hugo Ekitike has joined Liverpool, while Newcastle wanted to sign Mbeumo but were beaten to the transfer by Man United, and Football Insider recently revealed that Eddie Howe was “devastated” to have missed out on signing Joao Pedro.

Alexander Isak also wants to leave St James’ Park, and so all of these setbacks will massively irk Howe and their supporters who were promised a fruitful window after qualifying for the Champions League last season, but their annoyances can be calmed by signing Wissa.

The Magpies must still hold out hope of having a successful end to their summer business, and even after this setback, they will surely continue to pursue Wissa’s signature to calm any nerves ahead of the new campaign.
