Ben Marshall is finally set to join Wolves after the midfielder was reported as travelling towards the Midlands ahead of a medical, according to a reliable journalist.

BBC journalist Pat Murphy claimed on his personal Twitter account that Marshall is on his way to Molineux, ahead of a medical and to discuss personal terms.

The 25-year-old has been the subject of intense interest from Wolves this month, with the Midlands giants manager Paul Lambert looking to form a reunion with Marshall.

The two worked together during Lambert’s spell in charge of Blackburn, and the former Aston Villa boss believes Marshall would be the perfect fit at Molineux.

The Sun reported on Thursday that the Midlands giants had belatedly come to an agreement over a £1.85million fee for the player.

However, Murphy previously revealed on his personal Twitter account earlier on deadline day that a deal was no closer to being finalised before the 11pm deadline.

Now, a move for Marshall could finally materialise as the two clubs remain in talks over the former England Under-21’s international.

Blackburn’s number 10 has been one of the first names on Owen Coyle’s Rovers team sheet this season, making 25 appearances in all competitions for the Lancashire side.

Football Insider verdict:

Having spent a huge £13million on winger Helder Costa from Benfica, it seems ridiculous that Wolves were risking the potential signing of Costa for the matter of a few hundred thousand pounds. Lambert should give in to Blackburn’s demands if an agreement over transfer fee is yet to be made, with a potential move on the rocks if he continues to be stingy over the transfer fee for Marshall. The former Leicester winger’s knowledge of England’s second tier will prove vital to Wolves efforts in trying to remain in the Championship, as they sit just seven points above the drop zone in 18th place. However, with Marshall on his way to the Midlands, it seems a move has gathered momentum.

In other Wolves transfer news, the Midlands club must do this if they are to sign Grant Hanley.
