Wolves will table a fresh bid for Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham in the summer window, according to Noel Whelan.
The former Leeds United and Coventry City is convinced the Premier League club are readying a fresh swoop for Abraham, 21, after coming so close to signing him in January.
Wolves held talks with Chelsea about landing Abraham on a permanent deal but the Londoners held firm and an agreement was reached on a loan move before the player pulled the plug at the eleventh hour.
The centre-forward remained at Villa and has spearheaded their promotion bid with 25 league goals, second only in this season’s Championship to Norwich City’s Teemu Pukki, who has netted 27 times.
“I’m pretty sure Wolves will come in with a new bid,” Whelan told Football Insider. “Nuno [Espirito Santo] is a big admirer of him and has been tracking him for some time.
“There will be plenty of clubs in for him, though, from the Premier League and across Europe. Tammy Abraham is a top quality striker who is only going to get better.
“He is easily good enough to play at the highest level, and whoever gets him is going to get a great deal.”
Abraham is set to return at the end of the season to parent club Chelsea, where he has a contract that runs until the summer of 2022.
