‘World class’ – Shearer raves about this Newcastle United senior man

By Aramide Oladipo

Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has heaped huge praise on the club’s current boss Rafa Benitez and branded him as “world class”.

The 57-year-old has become a huge favourite amongst the St James’ Park faithful after guiding the Tyneside club back into the Premier League in his first full campaign in charge last season.

The Spaniard spearheaded the team to the Championship title and they have enjoyed some impressive results on their return to the top-flight of English football.

The Magpies picked up their fourth Premier League victory of the season after beating Crystal Palace 1-0 on the weekend and they currently find themselves in the top-half of the league table.

Writing in his column for the Sun, Shearer singled out Benitez for praise and believes that he could enjoy even more success at the club if he is backed by the board.

“I don’t know potential buyer Amanda Staveley, or what her plans are for the club, but I know what they should be,” he wrote.

“They should be to back a world-class manager to the hilt. Because the club has one in Rafa Benitez.

“My fear is that if a takeover does not go through by the end of this season, he will be lost to Newcastle.

“Benitez has them up in seventh place.

“Imagine what he could be doing with some serious financial backing.”

Chronicle reporter Chris Waugh recently reported on the newspaper’s official Facebook page that it could take between two or three months before Staveley could successfully takeover the club from Mike Ashley.

Benitez has already shown that he can secure silverware even without a huge budget from the board after leading Liverpool to the Champions League title in 2005 and an FA Cup the following season.
