‘Wow’: This is why Liverpool and Man United want to sign Mateus Mane

Liverpool and Man United scouts have been impressed by what they have seen from Wolves’ teenage sensation Mateus Mane at Molineux this season.

Scouts from some of the Premier League’s top clubs have been keeping a close eye on the 18-year-old, who has burst onto the scene since Rob Edwards‘ arrival.

Wolves are almost certain to suffer relegation from the Premier League this season and there is a growing feeling Mane will become available if they go down.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that scouts have been impressed by the forward and could be tempted to make moves in the summer.

Mane has established himself as an important part of Edwards’ starting XI despite his tender age, and is showing he would be capable of making a step up.

Man United and Liverpool set sights on Mateus Mane

Brown told Football Insider last month that Man City and Chelsea are watching Mane and have been alerted to his talents since his debut in December.

Scouts from a number of Premier League clubs, not just the big six, have been watching and have been impressed by his displays despite Wolves’ struggles.

A lot of clubs are having a look at Mane,” Brown told Football Insider.

“Sometimes a player comes out of nowhere and you think ‘wow, who is this’, and that’s when you need your scouts watching him so you know if he might be of interest.

“If you’re a club like Man United or Liverpool, you have to make it your business to know about every emerging talent, especially if they’re playing in the Premier League.

“From what I’m told, scouts have been very impressed by what they’ve seen from Mane.

“Mane is still very young, very raw, but you only improve in those areas with experience.

“He’s playing at a high level in a Wolves side which has struggled all season, but they like what they see and then it’s about whether he can make the step up.

“So when you see the likes of Liverpool and Man United being linked with him, that interest is definitely there and they’re keeping a close eye on his situation.”

How do Wolves feeling about losing Mane this summer?

Despite the growing interest in his signature and the scouts keeping tabs on his performances at Molineux, Mane remains a Wolves player as things stand.

Football Insider revealed last month that Wolves plan to build their team around Mane and are hopeful of keeping hold of him even if they are relegated.

Edwards is hopeful of keeping the teenager at the club after handing him his opportunity to impress, as they will be looking to bounce back immediately.

Football Insider revealed on 9 January that Wolves could be forced to cash in on Mane if they are relegated, with clubs keeping a close eye on his situation.

Given the level of interest and standard of clubs having a look at the teenager, it could prove difficult to keep hold of him, but Wolves are remaining hopeful.
