Wrexham agree to sign Ollie Rathbone as medical begins – sources

Wrexham have agreed a deal to sign midfielder Ollie Rathbone from Rotherham United, sources have told Football Insider.

The 27-year-old is set to undergo a Wrexham medical on Friday after the two clubs agreed to his permanent move late on Thursday night.

Rathbone made 45 appearances and scored one goal for Rotherham last season as they were relegated from the Championship into League One.

It’s been a busy transfer window for Hollywood-backed Wrexham having brought in six new first-team players following their promotion.

Both clubs are set to get their respective league campaigns underway tomorrow (August 10) with Wrexham facing Wycombe Wanderers and Rotherham playing Exeter City.

Ollie Rathbone set to swap Rotherham for Wrexham

Rathbone has been an integral part of Rotherham’s squad since making the move from Rochdale back in 2021.

The 27-year-old has gone on to forge a solid EFL career making 138 appearances and scoring eight goals for the club.

Wrexham seek to continue their meteoric rise to fame since movie star duo Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney took over the club in 2020.

The club have now been promoted twice in a row, from the National League to League Two in 2022–23, and then to League One in 2024.

This is the first time in the club’s 159-year history that they have achieved back-to-back promotions.
