'Dean Smith will be Furious' - Exclusive: Hutton on 'Schoolboy' Villa riling boss
Alan Hutton has ripped into the “schoolboy” decision making from Aston Villa in Sunday’s 4-3 defeat to Southampton.
The former Villa and Scotland star, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, has claimed Dean Smith will be raging with the “needless” fouls which resulted in three of the Saints’ goals.
A brace of free-kicks from James Ward-Prowse, coupled with goals from Jannik Vestergaard and Danny Ings, fired Southampton to a 4-0 lead at Villa Park.
Goals from Tyrone Mings, Ollie Watkins and Jack Grealish in the final 30 minutes were not enough to prevent Villa from suffering their second successive Premier League defeat.
Hutton has insisted Villa were the architects of their own downfall on Sunday afternoon and that they should have known Ward-Prowse would punish their mistakes.
Hutton told Football Insider: “I think Dean Smith will be furious, if I’m honest, I thought Villa started poor, they probably gave them too much respect, kind of sat off them.

“They gave away three needless fouls – when you know James Ward-Prowse is a dead-ball specialist, you cannot do that, it’s schoolboy stuff.
“I think he’ll be really angry at that. The second half was so much better – they pressed high, they won the ball back. Yes, Southampton took their foot off the gas a little bit but they still did everything good.”
Villa have now conceded seven goals in two games after a 3-0 defeat against Leeds United.
They will be looking to bounce back when they visit north London on Sunday to face Arsenal.
