Youssef En-Nesyri tipped to join West Ham despite Tottenham interest – expert

Youssef En-Nesyri could opt to join West Ham ahead of Tottenham this summer as the two clubs race to sign a new striker.

Football Insider revealed on 2 June that En-Nesyri features on the Hammers’ four-man striker shortlist ahead of the summer transfer window.

He has been a long-term target for the club, and the arrival of Julen Lopetegui made a deal more likely after their time together at Sevilla.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Spurs defender Alan Hutton explained that Tottenham should aim for more ambitious targets, with West Ham closer to En-Nesyri’s level.

The 27-year-old scored 20 goals in 41 appearances for Sevilla last season, including nine in his final 12 games of the season, inspiring interest from the Premier League sides.

Tottenham have been searching for an out-and-out number nine since Harry Kane left the club last summer and have made signing a new forward a priority.

Hutton suggested making a statement signing would pull them closer to competing with North London rivals Arsenal, with Ivan Toney tipped as the man for the job.

I’m not sure I can see him making the move to Tottenham,” he told Football Insider.

He is a good player and he’s played at a high level.

I think if there’s the opportunity for him to go to West Ham, who are looking for a number nine as well, that might suit him better.

We’ll get a feel for where Tottenham are aiming to head in the future through who they bring in.

If they go and make a statement signing and bring in somebody like Ivan Toney, they’ll be looking to challenge the likes of Arsenal.

I think they need to be more ambitious and go for Toney rather than somebody like En-Nesyri.”
