Man United need to sign a “big name” to fill the void up front this summer.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former West Ham striker Frank McAvennie said Harry Kane “is the guy” but insisted Daniel Levy won’t be willing to sell his star man.
On 28 June, Football Insider revealed that United are desperate to add a marquee striker to their squad this summer with club chiefs aware an “established” number nine is exactly what the side needs to close the gap to their Manchester rivals.
Tottenham star Kane was Erik ten Hag’s top target going into the window but the club are now pessimistic about landing the forward, as revealed by Football Insider (26 June).
McAvennie insisted there is no better option than the England international.
“I do not know who they are going to get,” he told Football Insider.
“Daniel is not going to sell that is for sure. If Kane went to Man United that is the difference between them challenging and not challenging, for me he is that good.
“United are crying out for a striker. The last one they had was [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic. Man United need a big name and Kane is that name.
“When you walk in the door at Man United they demand success. You have got to win and it is a demand that some people can’t handle so they need a big player to come in and Kane is the guy.“
