£250m Man United update is 'music to the ears of Tottenham fans' - pundit
Tottenham fans will be excited about the prospect of new boss Antonio Conte having £250million to spend in the transfer market, according to Noel Whelan.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed chairman Daniel Levy could have had his hand forced by the 52-year-old after the unsuccessful tenure of Nuno Espirito Santo.
As reported by the Mirror (November 13th), Man United sounded out Conte as a potential replacement for faltering boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but baulked at his demands for a transfer budget of £250million across the next two windows.
The former Inter Milan boss was appointed manager by Tottenham at the start of this month (November 2nd), following Nuno’s sacking the previous day.
Whelan claimed news of a potential spending spree will be “music to the ears” of the Spurs faithful.
“That’ll be music to the ears of Tottenham fans, they’ll be hoping Levy has given him that much,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“Maybe that is why Spurs didn’t get him in the summer, or possibly Conte has lowered his expectations.
“Man United are much richer than Tottenham – £250million is not a huge amount when you consider what they’ve wasted over the years. To me, if you’re hell-bent on getting a manager, you give him what he wants.
“That’s what Levy has had to do after it didn’t work out with Nuno and now they are going to reap the benefits of having him at the club.”
Conte is already lining up his first signing at Tottenham, with £40m-rated Stefan De Vrij a top target for the Italian.
Football Insider exclusively revealed yesterday (November 15th) that De Vrij has told friends of his interest in a Spurs move.
