£40m Newcastle star was ‘relentless’ vs Nottingham Forest as remarkable stats emerge

A Newcastle star shone as the Toon got only their second Premier League win of the season against Nottingham Forest.

Newcastle beat Nottingham Forest 2-0, with goals from Bruno Guimaraes and Nick Woltemade in the second half.

Eddie Howe’s side have had a stuttering start to the league campaign due to their problems in the transfer market signing a striker until late in the window.

Woltemade scored for the third successive home game against Nottingham Forest, in a major positive for Howe with Yoane Wissa out injured.

Bruno Guimaraes immense in Newcastle victory

In the midfield, Guimaraes’s combative and tenacious performance was a major factor in Newcastle‘s dominance in the match.

Guimaraes is happy at Newcastle amid contract talk over the 27-year-old, and Howe needs to keep the Brazilian fit if the Toon are to rise up the league table.

As per his heat map, Guimaraes was everywhere in the middle of the park, contributing going forward and defensively to limit Nottingham Forest to no big chances throughout the 90 minutes.

Competing in four competitions, Howe needs to ensure Guimaraes stays fresh to be able to put in such performances week in week out.

‘Outstanding’ Guimaraes tops key statistic against Nottingham Forest

Speaking on Sky Sports [5 October], striker Chris Sutton heaped praise on Guimaraes’ performance.

Guimaraes joined Newcastle for £40million back in 2022, which is looking like excellent business.

“He’s been outstanding, hasn’t he? Relentless,” Sutton said.

Guimaraes was involved in the most duels and won the most tackles, and this Newcastle display was more like how Howe’s side perform at St James’ Park.

Their performance against Arsenal lacked aggression and intensity, but Guimaraes epitomised those traits against Nottingham Forest.
