Gabby Agbonlahor has told Aston Villa to sign a faster winger than Dwight McNeil.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Villa’s record Premier League goalscorer delivered his verdict as the Midlands giants ready an early-window bid for the 21-year-old.

Football Insider revealed on Friday Villa are preparing to test Burnley’s resolve with a £15million bid for the attacker.

It comes as Villa look to sign two new wide attackers in the summer in a bid to keep Jack Grealish at the club.

That was before Trezeguet was ruled out for up to a year with a devastating ACL injury he suffered against Liverpool at Anfield last month.

Dean Smith’s current wide options are Anwar El Ghazi, Bertrand Traore and the talisman Jack Grealish.

And Agbonlahor is not convinced McNeil is any better than the trio.

He told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “I think he’s a good player.

“But Aston Villa should want somebody quicker.

“He likes to play on the left-wing and we know that Jack’s position is on the left-wing and we’ve got El Ghazi as well.

“Do I see him in an Aston Villa shirt? To be honest, I don’t see it.

“I think maybe they’ll go for somebody with better acceleration and pace than McNeil.”

McNeil has played on the left in the majority in the majority of his Premier League appearances this season.

However, the left-footer played on the right against Villa at Turf Moor in January and scored a goal and provided an assist in Burnley’s 3-2 win.
