Agbonlahor: Aston Villa tipped to U-turn on Davis after 'really crushing' news

Gabby Agbonlahor has admitted Keinan Davis’ lastest injury setback is a “really crushing” blow for Aston Villa.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Villa’s record Premier League goalscorer insisted the club “love” Davis but may look to offload him if his injury problems persist.

Football Insider exclusively revealed on Monday (2 August) that the 23-year-old will be out for two months.

Villa were planning on loaning him out for the season amid interest from a number of Championship clubs.

Stoke City were leading the race for his signature but that deal has now collapsed.

“It’s really crushing,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“He needed a loan, he needs to go and play football and score goals. He’s a very talented player but the injury record is very worrying.

“The amount of injuries he picks up for such a strong lad is definitely worrying for the club and himself. Now he’ll be at Aston Villa getting treatment.

“It changes Aston Villa’s view, they’re looking at it probably thinking ‘We were probably going to let Wesley go but now he can’t go anywhere’.

“It’s frustrating for him and for the club. He’s one of those players that the club really loves but it comes to the stage where you get so many injuries that the club have to look at alternatives.”

Davis has featured in 33 Premier League games for Aston Villa over the past two seasons.

He signed a new four-year deal with the Midlands giants last summer that will keep him at Villa Park until 2024.
