Agbonlahor lambasts Christian Eriksen as controversial Man United footage emerges

Gabriel Martinelli’s goal in Arsenal’s 3-1 defeat to Man United on Sunday (4 September) should not have been disallowed, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker insisted Christian Eriksen was not fouled in the build up and was guilty of taking too much time on the ball.

Martinelli thought he had opened the scoring for Arsenal early on, only for VAR to intervene.

Paul Tierney waved play on when Eriksen and Martin Odegaard came together near the halfway line as Arsenal won the ball back and launched a counterattack.

However, VAR operator Lee Mason intervened and the goal was eventually ruled out for a foul on the 30-year-old.

Man United eventually scored the game’s first goal in the 35th minute before Arsenal levelled the scores again.

A Marcus Rashford brace in the second half was eventually enough to secure all three points for United.

“The decision with Odegaard on Eriksen, for me, that’s not enough,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“That’s what you get, if you’re Eriksen, for taking too much time on the ball when you are not aware of what’s around you.

“For me, I would’ve said ‘Play on’ and it’s a goal.

“I feel like they definitely need to make changes and get ex-players in.”

Eriksen moved to Man United on a free transfer from Brentford in the summer.

Sources told Football Insider earlier this month (3 September) that the club gave the Norway international a £12million signing-on fee as well as a £200,000-a-week contract.

In other news, Kieran Maguire has issued a “£222million” reveal as Man United agree a Matt McKie deal.
