Agbonlahor shares two-word verdict on Rice signing new West Ham contract after update
There is “no way” Declan Rice will sign a new West Ham contract, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker suggested Rice will stay at the Hammers for one more season before moving on next summer.
Football Insider revealed on 22 July West Ham are preparing a “mega” offer for the 22-year-old England star.
His current deal expires in 2024 and the England star has already knocked back two extension offers.
Asked whether Rice would commit his future to the Irons, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “No way.
“I don’t see him signing a new contract.

“Declan Rice will see the likes of Mason Mount, Reece James, Phil Foden and Kyle Walker playing in Champions League finals. His experience at the Euros, he was one of England’s best players, he’s going to want more of that and he’s not going to get that with West Ham. Yes, the Europa League will be a nice experience but he’ll want to play in the big boy competitions, the Champions League.
“He’ll know he’ll have the quality to play for a top-level side so for me I don’t see him signing a new contract there. It’s inevitable that Declan Rice leaves West Ham.
“This summer’s very, very hard. We look at Kane, Grealish and all these players and it’s hard with covid for clubs to have money. You’re not going to see those massive transfers anymore.
“For Declan Rice to leave West Ham it’s going to probably cost close to £100million. Clubs probably don’t want to pay that at the moment.
“I don’t see him leaving this summer but eventually. He’s only 22 so he’s got plenty of time. Maybe he might look at it and say ‘I’ll do one more season, I’ll have less time left on my contract and make the move afterwards’.”
