Agbonlahor: Terry tipped to join Championship club from Aston Villa
Gabby Agbonlahor has tipped John Terry to head straight to a Championship manager’s job from Aston Villa.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Villa’s record Premier League goalscorer claimed family reasons will have played a major part in his decision to quit the Premier League outfit.
Villa announced earlier this week (26 July) the 40-year-old had quit the club after four years.
He spent a season as a player before joining Dean Smith’s coaching staff in October 2018.
In a statement released via the club website, Terry suggested he hopes to land a manager’s job before the end of the upcoming season.
“You can probably see him in the Championship and then he can try and get a job in the Premier League,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“He’ll look at the Championship level as somewhere to start.
“It’s something he’s always wanted to do and you’ve got to respect that.
“He’s got straight from Chelsea to Aston Villa and then straight to coaching, his family and his kids probably want some JT time, some time with their dad and their husband. It’s July, six weeks holiday for his kids and that might have played into his mind as well.
“He won’t have to travel up to Birmingham too. That can take its toll on you. There’s a lot of factors.
“He can spend some time with his family, maybe go and watch one or two games a week. It just suits him, to be honest.”
Terry earned his Uefa Pro Licence over the summer.
He was linked with the Swansea City job after his departure but Football Insider learned yesterday (27 July) they have made contact with MK Dons over Russell Martin.
