Agbonlahor: Tottenham told to sign 'no-nonsense' defender to play alongside Coady after update
Conor Coady could be the man who sorts out the Tottenham defence, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker admitted Spurs would also have to sign a “no-nonsense” defender to play alongside Coady.
Football Insider revealed on 2 August Tottenham have opened preliminary talks over a move for the England international.
Nuno Espirito Santo is a big fan of the 28-year-old after working together at Wolves.
The new Tottenham boss mentioned Coady in talks with the club before he was appointed.
He regarded the Wolves captain as his “lieutenant” at Molineux.

Asked whether Coady could sort out Spurs’ defence, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “Yes, he could be.
“He’s the sort of player that Nuno likes.
“You’ve just got to be careful at Spurs, they’ve got a lot of similar defenders who are good on the ball. The likes of Eric Dier.
“You don’t want similar centre-halves, you want a no-nonsense centre-half who can play alongside a Coady or a Dier.
“Sanchez was the man for that but he’s a bit rash, he’s not going to be the one who can carry out that role.
“It’s definitely something Spurs need to sort out.”
Football Insider learned today (5 August) Tottenham are submitting a new bid for Bologna defender Takehiro Tomiyasu this week.
They have also agreed a £47million fee with Atalanta for last season’s Serie A defender of the year Cristain Romero.
