Agent confirms Rangers should secure signing of forward from Euro giants within 24 hours

By Danny Wright

Daniel Candeias’ agent has confirmed that his client should complete his move to Rangers on Saturday.

Antonio Teixeira has revealed that the wide forward has been undergoing medicals in Glasgow and should be announced within 24 hours, as long as there are no hiccups.

“He’s doing his medicals. If everything goes right, he will sign tomorrow,” said the 29-year-old’s agent to Sport Witness on Friday night.

Candeias is currently on the books at European giants Benfica and speny the last season on loan at Turkish club Alanyaspor.

He made 30 appearances across all competitions during his temporary stint in Turkey, scoring four goals and supplying four assists.

The former Portugal Under-21 star has never played a senior game at Benfica after he signed for the Lisbon-based club following four successful years with Nacional.

Candeias rose through the youth ranks of Porto in the early day of his career but has had to endure nine different loan spells with clubs across the continent including Nurnberg, Granada and Metz.

If his agent is correct, Candeias could become Pedro Caixinha’s fifth signing since the season ended last month.

Bruno Alves, Ryan Jack, Fabio Cardoso and Dalcio have all been confirmed by the Glasgow giants, meaning that Candeias is lined up to become the fourth Portuguese player to sign.

Football Insider Verdict

Candeias certainly looks like a good prospect due to the clubs in Portugual that have had him on their books. If there’s a country that Caixinha knows well then it has to be his homeland Portugal. He’s made some pretty impressive signings so far but it’s likely that Candeias could struggle to adapt to life in Glasgow. There’s a lot of hype around him and that usually leads to bad things. Alves and Cardoso look like quality additions to the Gers backline but Caixinha’s attacking options still don’t look convincing. He needs to go all out to try and sign a first-team striker that can score at least 20 goals next season.

In other Rangers news, the club are second favourites to re-sign this midfielder.
