Alan Shearer sends Twitter message to Newcastle players following Preston victory

Newcastle icon Alan Shearer has aired his delight on Twitter as his former club sealed promotion to the Premier League with a win over Preston on Monday.
Shearer took to his personal Twitter account following the game to congratulate manager Rafa Benitez and his players for their deserved achievement, insisting the Premier League is a ‘better place with Newcastle in it’.

He said: “Congratulations Rafa and well @NUFC. The @premierleague is a better place with the Toon in it! Now the fun begins.”
Newcastle breezed to a comfortable 4-1 victory over Preston at St. James’ Park on Monday to finally seal their long-awaited return to the top flight, having endured a minor blip in form ahead of the tie.
The Magpies had failed to win any of their last three Championship games, suffering a disappointing 3-1 defeat to Ipswich last time out.

Title rivals Brighton had earlier secured their place in the top flight with a win over Wigan a week ago, but they have yet to secure the Championship title, offering Newcastle faint hope over the remaining two games.
Newcastle are currently four points adrift of the league leaders ahead of the final two games of the season, but must hope their rivals lose both games to stand any chance of winning the title.
Goals from Ayoze Perez (two), Christian Atsu and Matt Ritchie helped Newcastle finally kick off their promotion party against Preston on Monday, while Jordan Hugill found the back of the net for the visitors.
