Alan Shearer: This is what I would do when Sunderland beat Newcastle
By Amir Mir
Newcastle legend Alan Shearer has stated that the best advice is to “stay in your house” when talking about losing local derbies.
The Match of the Day pundit was involved in a number of high-profile and passionate derbies during his playing days, including those against Sunderland.
Shearer was involved in 11 Tyne-Wear derbies as a player, winning six out of 11 encounters and losing just three.
In recent years, Sunderland have had the better of their bitter rivals, who are currently leading the pack in the Championship.
Former Premier League winner Shearer explained what it was like losing a derby and what he would do as a player.

“Not good,” Shearer told Coral’s official YouTube account. “You stay in your house for a few days. That’s the best advice.”
At this moment in time, Sunderland are currently managed by David Moyes while Rafa Benitez is in charge at St James Park.
Both managers are experiencing different seasons with the Magpies enjoying the success despite playing in the second tier.
It is highly likely that a Tyne-Wear derby may not take place next season because both teams could end up swapping leagues at the end of the campaign.
The Black Cats are struggling in the top tier and currently sit bottom of the Premier League table having won just five out of their 28 matches this term.
By contrast, their neighbours are sitting top of the Championship having won 24 of their 38 encounters, losing only eight.
There are eight games of the season remaining for Benitez’ team and with a seven point lead on third-placed Huddersfield, they are now edging closer to a return to the top flight.
