McCoist slams Rangers star for flashpoint in draw v Partick, compares to Celtic midfielder
By Danny Wright
Ally McCoist has slammed Alfredo Morelos for appearing to kick out at Jordan Turnbull in Rangers’ 2-2 draw with Partick at Firhill on Friday night.
Morelos, 21, scored the opening goal for the Light Blues but saw his side pegged back by a stubborn Jags in the second half.
Blair Spittal and Chris Erskine scored in the 50th and 60th minute before the latter was shown a straight red card for a lunge on Morelos.
Shortly after, the Colombian striker was involved in a flashpoint with Turnbull in which he appeared to aim a kick at the Partick midfielder.
Rangers icon McCoist has now destroyed the striker for his ill-judged antics and has compared him to Celtic midfielder Scott Brown, who had a similar moment in his side’s 4-1 win at Hamilton last Friday.
“It’s stupidity. We were talking about Scott Brown at Hamilton, it’s pointless and it’s just a wee flash,” said McCoist on BT Sport’s live coverage of the Premiership fixture.
“That could have been red, Scott Brown’s could have been red against Hamilton.”
Morelos has been in hot form for the Light Blues but could have risked a ban with his actions in the second half.
The former HJK Helsinki star has scored eight goals in nine appearances so far this term, with five of them coming in his last three league outings.
Rangers have to face Partick again on Tuesday night in the Scottish League Cup before their first Old Firm clash of the season with Celtic at Ibrox next weekend.
