‘Anthony Elanga wants to join Newcastle’ as Nottingham Forest open talks
Newcastle United preparing to open talks over a deal to sign Nottingham Forest star Anthony Elanga to strengthen on the right wing.
That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the 23-year-old is keen to make the move to St James’ Park.
Eddie Howe is known to be a big admirer of the Forest star, and Newcastle’s place in the Champions League have given them a boost in their ambitions.
The Sweden international has been a long-term target for the Magpies, as Football Insider revealed in June 2024 that Newcastle had opened talks to sign Elanga.
After missing out last summer, their interest has remained strong and they are now prepared to reignite the efforts to reach an agreement.
This comes after Football Insider revealed Newcastle are prioritising signing a new winger and have considered a number of options for the role.

Anthony Elanga wants to join Newcastle United
Football Insider revealed last month that Newcastle will make at least three major signings this summer as they aim to bolster Howe’s squad.
Brown, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, insisted that Elanga is one of the names at the top of their list of transfer targets.
“Newcastle are prepared to bring players in this summer,” he told Football Insider.
“Anthony Elanga is one of the names on their list, Eddie Howe rates him highly.
“He’s been terrific for Forest and his explosive pace has been a real asset to them and he’s been a big part of their success and the way they play under Nuno.
“Newcastle have been keeping a close eye on him for a while.
“I think it’s a move they’re going to go for.
“I hear he wants to make that move as well, because they’re going to be in the Champions League.
“I personally don’t think Forest will have the same success next season, and I might be wrong, but that would explain why some of their better players are potentially looking at moves.
“Elanga would be a good option for Newcastle, and it would be a good move for him as well.
“They see him coming into their starting lineup and making a difference.“

Eddie Howe plots Samu Omorodion swoop after scouting missions
The addition of a new winger is not the only plan for the summer transfer window at St James’ Park, with a new striker also on their radar.
Brown told Football Insider that Newcastle want to sign Porto striker Samu Omorodion as they eye top-class replacements for Callum Wilson.
The forward’s performances both domestically and in Europe have impressed the Magpies’ scouts who have been keeping tabs on his progress this season.
Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed in March that Newcastle could sign Omorodion for less than his £82.5million release clause, although he will still cost a “huge” fee.
