Antonio Conte has revealed that Chelsea were keen to sign Celtic goalkeeper Craig Gordon in January but not his teammate Moussa Dembele.
However, Conte revealed that only Gordon was on his team’s January shortlist, despite reported interest in French wonderkid Dembele.
The Independent’s chief football writer Miguel Delaney quoted Conte on his personal Twitter account as saying that they tried to sign Gordon but never discussed a move for Dembele.
“For Dembele, I never talk with my club about this player,” Conte revealed. “Honestly. Gordon, we tried.”

The striker has been in wonderful form for the Hoops, scoring 20 goals in 38 league and cup games in Glasgow as Celtic continue their domination over Scottish football.
But former Juventus manager Conte revealed that he had not made a bid for the striker in January, and had not even discussed him as a potential target.
The Daily Record claimed Chelsea made a second formal offer of £4million for former Sunderland goalkeeper Gordon after their first offer worth £3million was rejected.
Now, it remains to be seen if Chelsea will enter the market for either Hoops star in the summer.
Football Insider verdict:
If Celtic had to choose between losing Dembele of Gordon, it would be their goalkeeper. So, hearing that Conte had no interest in top scorer Dembele will come as brilliant news to the Bhoys fans, as they look to keep him on Parkhead for the foreseeable future with a Champions League campaign expected once again next season. The striker has wowed fans with his goalscoring form since manager Brendan Rodgers opted to spend £500,000 worth of compensation on the youngster, which has proved to be a massive bargain. However, his resolve is likely to be tested again in the summer, with Chelsea likely not to be the only interested party in the France Under-21’s international.
