Arsenal backed for Youri Tielemans bid after £13m+ development - pundit

Arsenal could launch a late bid for Youri Tielemans after selling Bernd Leno and Lucas Torreira, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker claimed another midfielder would be “perfect” for Arsenal who also need a “top right-back”.

The Athletic reported earlier this week (2 August) that Leno’s move to Premier League newboys Fulham could reach up to £8million.

Fabrizio Romano reported on Thursday (4 August) that Torreira has accepted a move to Galatasaray who will pay a fee of around £5.9million.

That would raise over £13million for Arsenal who could also offload Hector Bellerin, Reiss Nelson, Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Pablo Mari before the close of the transfer window.

And Agbonlahor has claimed that it could open the door for Tielemans who only has a year left on his Leicester City contract.

Football Insider reported last month (18 July) that the 25-year-old wants to move to the Emirates this summer.

“I think definitely another midfielder would be perfect,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“I feel Arsenal need to get another top right-back, for me. It might not be possible this window but [Takehiro] Tomiyasu and Cedric [Soares] are not good enough, it’s an area they’ve got to improve.

“Another midfielder is worth getting, there’s a lot of football to be played this season.

“There are a lot of players in that Arsenal midfield who are not good enough at the moment.

“Maybe they are waiting until last minute, in late August, to get the Tielemans one over the line.

“Maybe they are getting rid of fringe players to get the money in for Tielemans for the end of the window.”
