Arsenal fans respond after Stan Collymore hits out at 24-year-old

By Matt Farr

Stan Collymore has incurred the wrath of the Arsenal fans on Twitter after stating the progress of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has stalled.

Collymore’s comments come after the England starting eleven was announced for the World Cup qualifier with Lithuania on Sunday.

The former Liverpool forward took his personal Twitter account to question the decision from Gareth Southgate to pick the out-of-form Oxlade-Chamberlain, 23, in his side.

He insisted that Everton midfielder Ross Barkley would have been a better alternative, after the 23-year-old had impressed in recent weeks for the Toffees.

But his scathing attack on Oxlade-Chamberlain did not sit at all well with Arsenal fans, who were in no doubt that their midfielder deserved to be part of the starting eleven.

The backing from the Arsenal support comes after a testing few weeks for the club, in which the club have lost six of their last nine games in all competitions.

But Gunners fans are certain that the performances of Oxlade-Chamberlain in his new central midfield role have been one of the few positives to take from their ongoing misery.

In contrast, Everton’s Barkley has re-discovered some of the form that made him one of the most promising young talents in England only a short while ago.

The attacking midfielder has shrugged off criticism from his own manager to play a starring role in Everton’s last few fixtures, as well as earning himself a recall to the England setup; albeit as a substitute.

He has five goals and seven assists from 30 appearances this season, including two assists from his last three Premier League appearances.

In other Arsenal news, this 25-year-old reportedly wants Serie A move after a glowing recommendation from David Beckham.
