Arsenal striker Stephy Mavididi is set to move on loan to the Championship, according to a reliable journalist.
Alan Nixon, a reliable source of transfer news and contributor to The Sun, posted the news on his official Twitter account on Friday afternoon.
It is thought that the Championship club in question is Preston North End.
A report in the South London Press & Mercury claimed earlier on Friday that Charlton had lost out with the youngster poised to join Preston.
The highly-rated 19-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan with Charlton, where he made five senior appearances.
They were hoping to get him back for this season too, but appear to have lost out to Championship rivals North End.
Mavididi is yet to make a senior appearance for the Gunners, but has impresssed hugely in the Under-23s side where he has scored 20 goals in 40 appearances.
Football Insider verdict:
Mavididi is a massive talent – he’s already proved that in the Under-23s – and the bruising landscape of the Championship is the perfect place to hone his talents and show Wenger he is deserving of a shot in the Arsenal team. Mavididi only made five appearances for Charlton last season and didn’t score a goal so it makes sense that he tries his hand somewhere else. If Preston North End can coax out the sort of goals he knocks in for Arsenal’s Under-23s, they’ll have a potent weapon in what is a tough, tough league.
