Xia confirmed that the 36-year-old centre-back would be joining Steve Bruce’s squad on his official Twitter account, as the West Midlands outfit complete their first signing of the summer.
The Chinese business man welcomed “JT” to Aston Villa, and appeared to sarcastically have a dig at Harry Redknapp by saying “welcome to Birmingham city…Aston Villa”.

Villa confirmed the news on their official Twitter account a few hours later.

The Villa chairman seemed to troll the fellow Birmingham club, after recent speculation suggested that the Chelsea legend could be joining Redknapp’s squad.
Reports also previously linked Terry with a move to Villa after he was spotted playing golf with the Villains boss Bruce.
The Chelsea legend spent 22 years at the London club, and during that time he made a total of 690 appearances, scored 65 goals and provided 29 assists.
Terry will be Bruce’s first official signing of the summer transfer window.
Football Insider verdict
The centre-back will be a fantastic addition to the dressing room at Aston Villa, as Terry will be able to provide experience and maturity among a fairly young team. After spending over two decades at Stamford Bridge and making 78 England appearances, the 36-year-old will bring an element of leadership and will be able to guide the younger squad members. For Terry, though, a move to a Championship club for the twilight years of his career will no doubt be disappointing after spending so many years in the top flight. However, it will mean he has more of a chance to play first team football in the remaining years of his footballing career, which will be a priority for the centre-back.
In other Aston Villa transfer news, the club must sign this free agent who has been an icon at their bitter rivals.
