Aston Villa could be signing 'ideal' Grealish ally after source's major update - Robinson

Paul Robinson has backed Aston Villa to “strengthen heavily” this summer and claimed a deal for Norwich City’s Emiliano Buendia would be a “great” start.

The former Spurs and England number one, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 24-year-old would be the “ideal” addition to Dean Smith’s squad as he could take the pressure off Jack Grealish’s shoulders.

This site revealed Villa are confident of beating Arsenal to the signing of the Argentinian playmaker after their latest round of talks.

It comes after made contact with third parties over a potential deal for Buendia last month.

Football Insider understands the Canaries have indicated they will let the attacking midfielder leave if their asking price of £30million-plus is met.

Robinson suggested Smith needs to add more creativity to his squad with Ross Barkley returning to Chelsea after a mixed loan spell at Villa Park.

“If they can get Buendia that would be a great bit of business from Villa,” he told Football Insider.

“I think they will strengthen heavily again this summer and hopefully Dean Smith is given free rein on who he wants to sign so long as they’re within the budget.

“Buendia would be a good start for them and it would make sense given that it looks like Ross Barkley is heading back to Chelsea. There will be a hole that needs filling in that squad.

“It is so important that they keep hold of Jack Grealish this summer because we saw how poor they were without him this season.

“But it is also important that they sign a plan B or someone that can take the pressure off Grealish next season. I think Buendia would be the ideal man.”
